GEM shear locks have a completely hidden mechanism and are ideal for doors that swing up to 180 degrees. The magnet “sucks” the armature plate up and traps it in the lock frame when the shear lock detects the door in the closed position.Generally a 2 -3 mm gap between the top of the door and the frame is optimum for the electromagnet to attract the armature plate and keep the door locked.

The built-in bond sensor indicates proper armature contact, and eliminates potential lock misalignment before the magnet is permitted to energize.

What is a shear lock?

Shear lock is an electromagnetic lock/magnetic lock. The armature does not directly draw off the face using Shear Lock; instead, the load is sheared, similar to a mechanical stop. In contrast to the classic direct pull type, which only operates in either an in-swing or out-swing arrangement, the shear magnetic lock allows a door to swing in both directions.
