When it comes to a passport solution, HID Global manages the entire process — from designing an entirely customized passport solution to the manufacturing of a unique passport in our own production facilities, until it finally reaches the citizen. Passports can be delivered as either machine readable (MRP) or with an electronic chip (e-Passport) and take into account the unique design and security requirements of each customer. As a system integrator, we are able to offer personalization technologies from a wide range of manufacturers, thereby providing the best solution for all our customers. Solutions can be automated or manual, incorporating chip encoding, inkjet or laser visible personalization and various levels of quality assurance.

Our design team will make sure that not only is the design aesthetically excellent, but also that the most appropriate features are incorporated to counter the specific threats posed to the document and identity of its holder.

HID Global manufactures electronic and non-electronic datapages, as well as e-Covers to upgrade machine readable passports to fully ICAO-compliant electronic ones.
Polycarbonate Datapages
HID manufactures advanced polycarbonate datapages that comply with the durability standards of ICAO. Laser-engraving the personal data and the picture allows advanced protection of data and a high-definition portrait, making identification easier for border control officers. Additionally, polycarbonate offers the possibility to add more security features to this sensitive identification document than any other material. Our world-class design team works closely with governments to craft datapages that reflect local themes and culture while aligning with industry best practices. Our innovations include our crack prevention feature, durable hinge technology and HID Mirage™, which is an exclusive HID 5-in-1 security feature. Our datapages are also available with RFID functionalities and ICAO-compliant Common Criteria certified SOMA™ chip operating systems, while still ensuring compatibility with standard passport lines such as UNO or KUGLER equipment, thus minimizing investment in new equipment.
e-Covers
Covering 100% of the market, HID Global’s portfolio of e-Covers provides state printers with high-quality, ready-to-use products that craft modern electronic passport booklets. Our e-Covers have been designed to perfectly fit all machine brands traditionally used to manufacture passport booklets, such as Kugler-Wamako or UNO. Our e-Covers are manufactured in house by gluing Paperlam or Teslin® T-Lam inlays to the cover, whether textile or paper-based.
HID Integrale is a modular software suite specifically designed to create issuance systems for electronic identification cards and ICAO e-Passports.
Developed in-house, HID Integrale has been designed and engineered to support either end-to-end system deployment or upgrades of legacy systems.
From biometric enrollment, ICAO PKI, data signing and personalization to ID document lifecycle and post-issuance management HID Integrale provides high performing modular software suites seamlessly customizable to the local environment.
Whether in a centralized data center or distributed server environment, captured application data is encrypted both at rest and in transit, ensuring the citizen’s information remains safe at all times.

Inlays
Paperlam® is a paper-based inlay, engineered to facilitate passport manufacturing with water-based glues and promote easy booklet binding, particularly when compared to other inlay materials.
- Paperlam SH uses a thin layer of radio-frequency shielding material, diminishing the risk of data theft when a booklet is closed. Once open, a booklet can be personalized or normally verified at a border crossing.
- Paperlam SE incorporates unique fibers that enhance an inlay’s security.
The T-Lam products are made of Teslin® material and ceFLEX™ layers, enabling them to have superior resistance to tearing and making them highly durable. T-Lam products can be offered in different configurations and structures (one or two ceFLEX layers) and can be easily integrated into all standard cover-gluing machines available on the market today.
