FAQs – ID Card Printers, Biometric & Access Control UAE
Whether you are evaluating your first access control system or upgrading an existing setup, it is natural to have questions. We have pulled together the most common ones our customers ask before, during, and after a project. If something is not covered here, our Dubai-based team is always happy to talk it through.
ID Card Printer FAQs
An ID card printer is a specialized device that prints on PVC cards using thermal or retransfer technology. It transfers images, text, and barcodes onto plastic cards for employee IDs, membership cards, and access cards.
Direct-to-Card (DTC) printers, like the popular Zebra ZC300, print directly onto the card surface, leaving a tiny white border. Retransfer printers, such as the HID Fargo HDP5000, print onto a film first, which is then heat-sealed over the card. This "over-the-edge" tech is the best price investment for high-definition, durable cards that don't fade.
Yes, but you’ll need a "duplex" or dual-sided printer. While single-sided models are great for basic badges, a dual-sided machine automates the process so you don't have to flip cards manually. If you’re looking to buy in Dubai, always check if the model supports a flipper module for seamless services.
For encoding RFID or HID proximity cards, we highly recommend HID Fargo Retransfer technology. Since the print head never touches the card, it won't damage the internal chips or antennas. It’s the gold standard for secure installation in corporate offices across the UAE.

Costs vary depending on the printer model, encoding features, and software. Entry-level systems start affordably, while advanced systems with smart card encoding and lamination cost more.

Access Control System FAQs
An access control system restricts and monitors entry to buildings or rooms using authentication methods such as RFID cards, PIN codes, or biometric verification.
The cost varies based on users and features (facial vs. fingerprint), but we offer competitive quote options starting from entry-level ZKTeco devices to high-end multi-biometric systems. At ID Vision, we ensure you get the best price with full local support.
Absolutely. In 2026, contactless tech is the standard. Facial recognition systems are 100% touchless, making them the most hygienic choice for workplaces. They are fast, secure, and eliminate the "buddy punching" issues found in older systems.
- RFID: Contactless access using cards
- Biometric: Uses fingerprint or facial recognition
- Card-based: Traditional swipe or proximity cards
Each system offers different levels of security and convenience.
The UAE climate is demanding, and not every reader is built for it. For outdoor installations, look for readers with an IP65 rating or above, and an operating temperature range that covers at least up to 60 degrees Celsius. HID, Suprema, and Xperix all have models rated for outdoor use. Suprema's BioStation series and Xperix's outdoor range are frequently specified on UAE projects for exactly this reason. We always recommend checking the full datasheet before installation rather than assuming indoor models will cope.
A proximity card, sometimes called a prox card, transmits a fixed ID number when held near a reader. It is simple, affordable, and still widely used, but offers limited security since the data cannot be encrypted. A smart card stores encrypted data on an embedded chip and supports more advanced security protocols such as DESFire EV2 or EV3. For any environment handling sensitive areas or data, smart cards are the better long-term choice. If you are building a new system from scratch, we generally steer clients towards smart card technology from the start.
In most cases, yes. Our turnstiles communicate via Wiegand 26/34 or OSDP protocols, which are supported by the majority of access control platforms on the market including HID, Suprema, Gallagher, and Lenel. Before we specify any turnstile for a project, our technical team confirms protocol compatibility with your existing controller.
Biometric & Attendance System FAQs
A biometric attendance system records employee attendance using fingerprints, facial recognition, or iris scanning, ensuring accurate and tamper-proof tracking.
Yes, most modern attendance systems integrate with HR and payroll software to automate salary calculations and reporting.
For larger teams, particularly in construction, manufacturing, or facilities management, Suprema and ZKTeco are the two brands we recommend most often. Both handle high-volume fingerprint or face recognition reliably in tough conditions, integrate with popular HR and payroll platforms, and are well supported locally. Anviz is also a strong option for mid-sized businesses looking for a cost-effective system with solid software.
The right choice usually comes down to how many doors or terminals you need, and which payroll platform you are running.
